Memorable Holiday Brand Campaigns (And A Few Takeaways)

With the holidays coming to a close, it is a great time to pause and take a look at the brands who have some of the most memorable (and fun!) seasonal campaigns.

JO MALONE LONDON: MAGIC & MAYHEM

Like your Christmas with a healthy sprinkling of magic? Us, too. Jo Malone London’s ‘Magic & Mayhem’ campaign visually invites you into a magician’s salon. Filled with boxes on boxes, candles galore and set against a backdrop of velvety royal blue and metallic gold, the Jo Malone London experience surprises and delights—from top to bottom notes, both figuratively and literally. 

Tip: Think you can’t convey the spirit of your campaign in five seconds? Jo Malone London thinks you absolutely can. Check out their quick video and see how they used a little editing magic paired with just-right musical scoring to convey the magic of the holidays.

OLIVE & JUNE: 12 DAYS OF MANI MAGIC

A 12-day holiday marketing event where you reveal a surprise, giveaway, new item, or feature a member of your community is a great way to build excitement—even with a limited budget. It’s also a nice way to give your customers a reason to come back to your social channel each day. 

Case in point: this Frozen-inspired mani from Olive & June. 

Tip: It doesn’t always have to be a hard sell to shop. Offer something valuable to your customers and, if they’re inspired, they’ll keep coming back for more. 

CUYANA: FEWER, BETTER

When your brand ethos is all about mindful consumption, a holiday campaign on gifting can get tricky and might seem counter to a philosophy of buying “fewer, better things.” Not so for Cuyana, who used their brand’s foundational “fewer, better” sentiment and packaged it for the holiday season by asking their customers to “gift with mindful intention” and to “make a lasting impact.”

Tip: It’s OK to repeat what’s already in your brand manifesto. Instead of reinventing the wheel for the holidays, Cuyana simply leaned into their brand message even more.

MADEWELL: MERRY EVERYTHING

Everything about Madewell’s holiday assets screams MERRY EVERYTHING—which also happens to be the spirit of their holiday campaign. From CTAs to promo codes (“GOODCHEER”), “super-fun” videos, festive imagery, upbeat email subject lines (“New gifty arrivals and a new merry sale!”), Madewell really embraced joy and merry everything. 

Tip: Don’t forget to update your gift card design and packaging. A memorable card makes for a positive customer experience and adds value to your brand. And in this Insta-world, visuals are everything! Packaging that stands out shows your customers that your brand knows how to celebrate the season in style. And it makes for a ‘grammable moment.
