Finance fee FAQs

What is APR?

Annual Percentage Rate (APR) represents the yearly cost of borrowing.

What is the APR for an order with a finance fee?

A finance fee is part of the cost of borrowing used to determine the APR. Your Truth in Lending Disclosure, included in your Loan Agreement, shows the total finance charge and APR.

When am I charged a finance fee?

A finance fee may apply to a Pay in 4 purchase made with a single-use card at a non-partner merchant or to a gift card purchase made in the Afterpay app.

The finance fee is calculated as a percentage of the amount financed and divided equally across the three remaining installments.

How does a finance fee work?

  1. Make an eligible single-use card or gift card purchase with Afterpay.

  2. Pay the down payment at checkout. The down payment doesn’t include a finance fee.

  3. Afterpay calculates the finance fee on the remaining amount financed.

  4. The finance fee is divided equally across the three remaining payments.

How do refunds work?

If we owe you a refund for a finance fee, we’ll apply it to your order and update the purchase total.

If you’ve paid the order in full, we’ll return the finance fee to your original payment method.
