Afterpay - Invite a Friend Program Terms
United States - Terms and Conditions
The Afterpay “Invite a Friend” program (“Program”) will be available at 12:00 p.m. PT on Monday, October 27, 2025.
The following terms and conditions apply to your use and Referred Customer’s (as such term is defined below) use of Afterpay’s Program in conjunction with the services provided by Afterpay US, Inc. and/or Afterpay US Services, LLC. You and Referred Customer agree by participating in the Program that the Program Terms are in addition to any agreements between Program participants and Afterpay including Afterpay’s U.S. Terms of Service, Afterpay Privacy Policy and relevant Afterpay Installment Agreement or Loan Agreement.
Program definitions:
- You, your, Referrer: The referring, existing Afterpay customer.
- Referral Code: A unique code that you can only generate from your Afterpay app to share only with friends, acquaintances or family members to invite them to use the Afterpay service.
- Referral Credit: A promotional code that you will receive when you invite a New Customer to use the Afterpay service and the New Customer completes an Afterpay purchase of $50 or more (including tax and shipping costs). (This is a “Successful Referral.”) A Successful Referral will result in a Referral Credit, which entitles you to $10 off any eligible future Afterpay purchase of $50 or more (including tax and shipping costs). You and a Referred Customer will each receive a Referral Credit as a result of a Successful Referral. Referral Credits expire 90 days from the date that are issued.
- New Customer:
- A friend, acquaintance or family member of a current Afterpay customer who does not at the time of referral have an active Afterpay account or has never completed a purchase using Afterpay.
- You and the Referred Customer may be from the same household, provided that the Referred Customer is not an existing Afterpay customer.
- Potential New Customers must be an eligible Referred Customer.
- Referred Customer:
- A New Customer who you invite and refer to sign up for the Afterpay service who completes a Successful Referral.
- A New Customer who is 18 years of age or older.
- A New Customer who is not a resident of an Ineligible State or Territory.
- Referrers are not eligible Referred Customers (i.e., a Referrer cannot refer themselves by using separate email addresses for the two Afterpay accounts). Please note, opening two accounts using different email addresses is a violation of Section 5 of the Afterpay U.S. Terms of Service.
Important Program Terms
- You and the Referred Customer must reside in the District of Columbia or the United States with the exception of Connecticut, Maryland, Nebraska, Rhode Island, North Dakota, Texas and the United States territories (“Ineligible States and Territories”). For clarity, the Program is not available to residents of Connecticut, Maryland, Nebraska, Rhode Island, Texas and North Dakota or the United States territories. Program availability is not guaranteed in all fifty (50) states and is in Afterpay’s sole discretion.
- When a Referred Customer completes their first Afterpay purchase, you will receive a Referral Credit for $10 to be used towards any eligible future Afterpay purchase of $50 or more (including tax and shipping costs). Afterpay reserves the right to exclude any customer from being considered to be a New Customer if they, for example, in the past had an Afterpay account and were not in good standing with that account as determined in Afterpay’s sole discretion.
- Any Referred Customer who signs up to use the Afterpay service directly from your Referral Code will also receive a Referral Credit for $10 to be used towards any eligible future Afterpay purchase of $50 or more (including tax and shipping costs). Referred Customer understands that by signing up to use the Afterpay service directly from a Referral Code, Referred Customer confirms they have read and agree to the requirement to create an Afterpay account and make their first Afterpay purchase of $50 or more (including tax and shipping costs).
- Referral Codes / Referral Credit from this Program will only be available within the Afterpay app. Referral Credits will expire after 90 days of being issued to you or the Referred Customer and are one-time use only.
- Both you and the Referred Customer will be eligible for a Referral Credit under the Program if the Referred Customer signs up to use the Afterpay service by clicking your Referral Code, creates an Afterpay account, and completes an eligible purchase of $50 or more (including tax and shipping costs) using Afterpay.
- Any Referral Credit earned from this Program will be applied to the total original purchase value as displayed by the retailer (including tax and shipping costs) to reduce the value of the four payments equally for you or the Referred Customer (as applicable). You and Referred Customer are solely responsible for any tax consequences or obligations arising from or in connection with the Referral Credit provided hereunder. We do not offer you tax or legal advice but we urge you to consult with a qualified tax professional to advise on your unique personal circumstances and any tax consequences in connection with the Referral Code / Referral Credit.
- Where a Referral Credit is used on an Afterpay purchase that is subsequently returned or refunded by you or the Referred Customer (as applicable), Afterpay reserves the right to recover the value of the Referral Credit used.
- If any products that have been purchased using Referral Credit are returned, the maximum amount you or the Referred Customer (as applicable) will be refunded is the amount paid for the product, subject to any applicable refund policies.
- Any Referral Credit is not transferable and not redeemable for cash or any other credit, and may not be resold or applied to any previously placed orders.
- Any Referral Credit may not be used in conjunction with any other Afterpay promotion.
- You and the Referred Customer can only use the Referral Code once for an eligible Afterpay purchase of $50 or more (including tax and shipping costs). After you have used the Referral Credit there will be no more rewards related to this referral.
- You may have up to 5 unique Successful Referrals to Referred Customers throughout the duration of the Program for a maximum total of $50 in total Referral Credit.
- All referrals must be made only to eligible New Customers and any unique Referral Code may not be published by you in any public place, whether online or otherwise, which could reasonably be seen by any person who is not an eligible New Customer in Afterpay’s sole discretion. Any referrals must also comply with these Program Terms and Referred Customers must be eligible for the Program at all times.
- Referral Credits are not cumulative and each instance of a Referral Credit may only be used once towards a purchase. Multiple Referral Credits may not be used together towards a single purchase.
- Afterpay reserves the right to validate the eligibility of any Referred Customer with respect to whether they are a New Customer or as otherwise deemed necessary, and may determine any Referred Customer to be ineligible in its sole discretion.
- Referral Credit will be available for Afterpay purchases made by you or the Referred Customer online, and will not apply or be available to any in-store purchases or cross border transactions using the Afterpay service.
- Afterpay reserves the right to modify or cancel the Program at any time without prior notice to you or the Referred Customers.
