We are here for you during the COVID-19 crisis

Now, more than ever, Afterpay is working hard to support our customers, our merchant partners and our employees.

For our customers

Afterpay has always been committed to responsible spending. We set out to build Afterpay as a tool to help people make the most of their money and manage their spending.

Now more than ever, we want to encourage people to think about their budget and spend responsibly.

The inbuilt protections in our platform mean that for customers, we already:

  • Do not ever charge interest, account keeping or establishment fees

  • Provide people a manageable spending limit based on their payment history and capabilities

  • Cap late fees at a low level – a maximum of 25% of the repayment, or $68, whichever is lower

We understand that your circumstances can change and that you may need our support. That’s why we have a well-established financial hardship policy. If you need our support, please visit our hardship page

For our merchant partners

Right now none of us are operating under normal business conditions. Far from it. But our commitment to supporting our retail partners has not changed.

We are doing everything we can to provide support in the best way we know how.

That means continuing to market and connect businesses with our loyal customer base. And, most importantly, continuing to partner with retailers to offer customers a responsible way to budget for and make purchases in what are challenging circumstances.

For merchants, we already:

  • Only charge a merchant when a sale is successfully processed – Afterpay does not charge any standing per terminal, per store or per month fees

  • Guarantee payment

  • Assume all customer risk

In addition, we’re proactively developing initiatives to add increasing value to our merchants through this period and identifying opportunities to support merchants who are facing difficulty.

For example, launching our ‘Support Small’ and ‘Afterpay Connect’ campaigns which link customers with retailers, including by showcasing hundreds of small businesses who offer their unique products with Afterpay.

For our employees

We couldn’t be prouder of the Afterpay team, who - in the face of these challenging times - have adapted, stood (virtually) shoulder to shoulder and kept our customers and merchants at the centre of everything we do.

Managing the health and wellbeing of our people has been our first priority. We have taken the necessary measures to ensure the health and safety of our global workforce with all team members working from home since mid-March

Communication during this crisis is more important than ever. We are staying in close contact with our team to make sure they are well, and they’re receiving regular updates on how the business is tracking and the various actions we are taking. We are also providing support to team members and their families as they need it.
