Elliot Garnaut’s Winter Wardrobe Essentials

Fashion and celeb stylist Elliot Garnaut is a maker of moments, known for his seamless style and unapologetic approach to fashion. The in-demand stylist has one of the best Rolodexes in the biz, having worked with the likes of Phoebe Tonkin, Elyse Knowles, Shanina Shaik and world-famous designers from Fendi to Valentino, Louis Vuitton and Dior.

Next month, Elliot is set to style some of AAFW's major shows, including Afterpay's highly-anticipated Future of Fashion show. As the chilly season rolls in, we caught up with Elliot to get his hot take on winter wardrobe essentials for men.

ALL ABOUT THE LAYERS

"Ironically, considering how much more clothing we wear, I actually find it much easier to dress for winter than summer. It's far more simple once you get your head around the layering." For Elliot, it's all about getting that outer layer right, "Make sure you've invested in a quality coat that will last you years instead of just one season. Keep your colour palette classic. Blacks, whites and greys mixed with camels and navy."

CLASSIC WINTER STAPLES

Having a curated collection of staples creates the perfect foundation for your winter wardrobe. For Elliot, those staples include: "A classic black wool coat - nothing synthetic. A reliable pair of timeless boots. A puffer jacket that will elevate your activewear or act as a finisher for streetwear."

A POP OF COLOUR

While Elliot tends to revert to the classics, winter 2022 will see us stepping out of our all-black ensembles. "Bright colours are making a comeback this winter, offset against black. Think hot pink, neon yellow and blue."

GO-TO WINTER DESIGNERS

And as for Elliot's go-to winter designers, "I'm having a moment with Balenciaga; however, as winter comes around, I always tend to lean more to the preppy. P Johnson Tailors is always a favourite for the cold."

COMPLETING YOUR LOOK

According to Elliot, the finishing touches to a look make all the difference. "Have fun with your accessories. Don't shy away from hats, scarves or even gloves."

The celeb stylist's must-have winter accessories include "a lace-up pair of boots, fisherman's beanie, sh*tloads of oversized knits and only one totally universal scarf."
