Freedom Fashion: Get your post-lockdown looks sorted.
Right now in NSW, things are about to get wild. We’re coming out of lockdown (ideally forever, but that’s TBC), and summer is right around the corner. And while there are so many things to look forward to in the coming months, the one we’re most excited about is bustin’ out of these lockdown looks. So here’s the big question: what’re we going to wear?

Chk chk – BLOOM!
Winter isn’t the most colourful fashion season in Australian cities. Even pre-COVID, walking through Martin Place on a weekday morning was like looking at a seascape of blacks and greys and navy blues. But with summer coming and lockdown ending, fashion experts are predicting a massive explosion of colour to hit the streets in the coming months.
Don't believe us? Take a cheeky scroll through David Jones and THE ICONIC and you’ll notice how people are snapping up the funnest and boldest colours in preparation for getting out and about. Because why not!
Our advice is to create a summertime colour story that makes you feel as much joy as possible. Grab that beautiful blue skirt from Bec & Bridge, and pair it with a golden bikini from Zulu & Zephyr for a full beachy, summer palette.
Be extra, add extras.
Over the last few months, we’ve been cutting back on some of the things we usually love to fuss over, like cologne/perfume, lipsticks, jewellery, bags, accessories – all of which were replaced by one necessary, but not fun, accessory: the mask.
It’s time for that all to change. Freedom means expressing ourselves with our added extras once again. Even with a simple monochromatic outfit, Poppy Lissiman does a range of fun, colourful bags that’ll get heads turning. Then check out Quay or Vehla Eyewear for some sunnies that’re gonna give you something fun to peer over while people watching on the beach.
Comfort will still reign.
We’ve all been kickin’ around in activewear for the last few months (slash year), which, let’s be honest, hasn’t been too bad. It’s been a blessing for managing outfit choices during a time where working and walking is all we can really do, and it set the scene for brands like Aje to launch their new Atheletica range, which is an absolute leisurewear dream.
Moving forward, we reckon being comfortable will stay on the menu when it comes to dressing up for the day.
That means matching activewear with proper outerwear, or simply choosing sizes and fabrics that don’t get in the way of you having a good time – because feeling good and looking good go hand-in-hand.
Dots, stripes, fruits and florals.
Go nuts with a pattern this year. That’s all. cc: Holiday the Label, Forever New and ASOS.
One for the boys.
Just because you wear less on the beach, doesn’t mean you can’t have fun with what you wear, especially after a year of being in and out of lockdown. Brands like Rude Rainbow and AussieBum do a range of swimwear that lets guys show off a little of their personality. Plus, Tribe Swimwear, Teamm8 and General Pants also get pretty funky with colours, patterns and materials.
If this summer will be your first time in a brief style of swimwear, good for you! It’s important to be bold and love the body you’re in. Find a cut and colour that makes you feel awesome and confident – even when you get dunked by a wave in front of a beach full of people.
