LSKD: "Afterpay has been amazing for our brand"

Leading streetwear and activewear brand LSKD credits Afterpay with helping fuel their growth.

Whether he’s running a business or running marathons, Jason Daniel moves quickly.

Daniel was just 16 when he launched streetwear and activewear brand LSKD in 2007. Back then, the business was called Loose Kid Industries, a high school nickname Daniel was given 20 years ago. 

Today, LSKD is one of Australia’s most successful streetwear and activewear brands. It employs 60+ staff, turns over tens of millions every year, and just opened its first retail store. A key factor in LSKD’s success? Afterpay, says Daniel.

“Afterpay has played a huge part of our growth journey and is our biggest buy now, pay later platform on our e-commerce store,” says Daniel. “Afterpay has been amazing for our brand.”

 The brand officially signed up to Afterpay in 2018, he adds. “It was really early days, but when we saw Afterpay launch, [we knew] it was something we wanted to be part of.”

Today, more than one in four LSKD customers uses Afterpay, and Afterpay’s cross-border trade programme has helped LSKD expand into new countries, such as Australia, New Zealand and the US. Offering Afterpay during key retail moments such as Black Friday has also helped drive sales, adds Daniel.

“Afterpay has been a really fantastic partner for LSKD over the past few years,” says LSKD’s Mike Doyle. “Afterpay has been really helpful all the way through with campaigns and supporting us with communications data and insights. From 2020 to 2021 we had an increase of four times GMV.”

LSKD has expanded from a business dreamed up in Daniel’s bedroom to one with global reach.The brand’s mission statement is ‘chase the vibe’ and is purposed to inspire its sporty, experience-driven community. Daniel is resolute in championing this vision.

“LSKD creates functional sportswear with a street aesthetic. One of our goals is to really create amazing fabrics and beautiful fits for everyday athletes,” says Daniel, who – true to form – has no intention of staying still.

“The next few years are going to be exciting [in terms of] where we take our brand and really build out our community… I would 100 per cent recommend any brands that are starting out to use Afterpay and sign up straight away."
