Before you start
You can update your number in the app or on the website while you remain logged in. You don’t need your old phone. We send a code to your new number and a code to the email address on your account.
Stay logged in until the change is complete. If you log out and no longer have your old number, you won’t be able to log back in on your own, because your login code goes to your registered number. If that’s already happened, see Log in with a new phone number.
How to change your number in the app
Follow these steps:
Log in to the app.
Choose the icon on the far right at the bottom of the screen to open My Afterpay.
Choose your profile icon in the top right-hand corner.
Choose Personal.
Choose Edit on the phone number field.
Enter your new number.
Enter the verification codes that are sent to your new email address or phone number.
How to change your number on the website
Follow these steps:
Log in to your account on the Afterpay website.
Choose Account.
Open the Profile tab.
Choose Edit next to your mobile number.
Enter your new number.
Enter the code sent to your new number, and the code sent to the email address on your account.
Your code hasn’t arrived
Try the following if you haven’t received your code:
Restart your phone. This refreshes the connection between your handset and your network.
Take your SIM out and put it back in. This re-registers your number with the network.
Check with your network that shortcode messages are turned on. Your network may call this A2P. Many new phones have it switched off by default, which stops verification codes arriving. If it is switched off, your network can turn it on in a couple of minutes.
Tried all three and still nothing? Get in touch and we’ll check from our end why you’re not receiving the messages.
It says your number is already in use
Mobile numbers get reused, so your number may have been used with Afterpay before you had it. Here’s what to do:
If the account is yours (for example, an older account under a different email address), get in touch and we can help you get back into it.
If the account isn’t yours, get in touch. Send us a current mobile phone bill to confirm your ownership of that number. We’ll check whether we can release the number. If we can’t, we’ll let you know what to do next.
