How can we help?

What is Spend Cap?

Spend Cap lets you set a personal spending cap below your Spend Limit in the Afterpay app.

Spend Limit

Your Spend Limit is the maximum amount you’ve been approved to spend with Afterpay under the Credit Contract in our General Terms.

Estimated Available to Spend

Your Estimated Available to Spend is an estimate of how much you may be able to spend under your Spend Limit. You can view it in the Afterpay app or on the Afterpay website.

The estimate considers your Spend Limit, Spend Cap, open order amounts, and unpaid late fees. It isn’t guaranteed.

Spend Cap

Spend Cap is an app-only feature that lets you cap your spending below your Spend Limit. The minimum Spend Cap is $100. You can set, change, or turn it off at any time.

Set a Spend Cap

  1. Open the Afterpay app.

  2. Select My Afterpay.

  3. Select Settings.

  4. Select Spend Limit.

  5. Select Spend Cap.

  6. Enter an amount between the minimum $100 cap and your maximum Spend Limit.

  7. Select Set spend cap.

Example

  • Afterpay sets your Spend Limit at $2,500.

  • You set your Spend Cap at $500.

  • You later change your Spend Cap to $800.

  • Your Spend Cap is now $800.

If the amount you owe is higher than your Spend Cap, your Estimated Available to Spend will show $0 until the amount you owe falls below your Spend Cap.

What happens if I try to spend more than my Spend Cap?

If a purchase exceeds your Spend Cap or you’ve reached your Spend Limit, we can’t approve the order.

Change your Spend Cap

  2. Select My Afterpay.

  3. Select Settings.
